‘Judgment day’ bout moved forward after Gbese protests

Hopefully boxers Bukom Banku and Ayitey

Powers will have their fistful day in the ring on

May 15 rather than the next day.

The fight, which was first rescheduled from April

18 to May 16 must now come off a day earlier,

thanks to protests from traditional priests at Gbese.

A Youth and Development Chief Amotsiwe, Nii

Ayafio Tetteh I, the first to raise protests against

the May 16 'judgment day' bout said the

traditional council couldn't have allowed the

fight to flout a traditional ban on noise making

which will coincide with the bout.

The ban is an annual tradition which precedes

the traditional Homowo festival of the coastal Ga

community.

The Ghana Boxing Authority agreed the new date

with the Promoters and the Gbese Traditional

Council after consultations and discussions.

The fight was first postponed after Powers'

spiritual father, Prophet T.B. Joshua of Nigeria

warned him against fighting on Good Friday.
