A nurse who turned musician in the Bono East Region, Ohemaa Vickey has won hip life artiste of the year at the maiden edition of Nkoranza Music Awards (NKZ).
She made history as the only female nominated at the NKZ Music Awards. The ‘Nkontompo’ singer beat several male artists to be adjudged the best hiplife artiste in Nkoranza South Municipality.
Before the awards ceremony, critics and industry persons had tipped her as the favourite to win.
The then Vickey Brown who has changed her name to Ohemaa Vickey believes rebranding herself will be beneficial to her music career.
According to her, a lot of Ghanaian artistes like Bandana changing his name to Shatta Wale, Batman to Samini and others have reaped the success of making such a decision.
“It will work for me because even now on the street people don’t know me all that much and I think it’s good for me this time because next year is the year for Ohemaa Vickey and the whole world is going to hear about me and my music career,” she said.
Ohemaa Vickey is currently working under Big Brains Entertainment record label and calling on Ghanaians especially music lovers to look forward to good Ghanaian music blended with African beats.
