Ignoring Veteran Ghanaian Actors Is Worrying – Kwaku Manu

Ghanaian actor, Kwaku Manu is perturbed about how veteran
actors are being treated in the country.

Speaking with DJ Murphy Lee on Bohye FM in Kumasi, Kwaku
Manu said it is time for Ghanaians to emulate what their Nigerian counterparts
are doing.

“Nurturing someone to be like Agya Koo or Kwaku Manu is not
easy. Spending on somebody to be popular is not easy. It will take a lot of
money. Most of the producers do not cast actors after they have become a
household name…and that’s our problem. Look at Nigerians, they have a lot of
veteran actors who are active on their screens but same cannot be said about Ghanaians,”
he stated.
“Nigerians have laws; it got to a time that Genevieve Nnaji,
Ramsey Noah and others were banned. They wanted to divert the movies into a
different level and the producers who are investing their monies in the
industry stood to their grounds and stop them. It helped…and other budding
characters learned from that punishment. Ask yourself if we have any laws
governing Kumawood,” Kwaku Manu added.
He called on all stakeholders to come together and revamp
the industry.
“It is getting to two-years after the Actors Guild election
but the leaders have not called us to meet with them. We need to meet and share
ideas. The producers can share with us their problems…and from there we can
decide what to do to support.”
