Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated the Tain District Hospital on Friday.

The hospital located at Nsawkaw in the Bono Region is a 60-bed with the state-of-the-art facility.

It is expected to take care of about 30,000 people in the area—and it will also serve as a referral centre for cases from the non-sophisticated health care facilities.

“The hospital – containing 24 different buildings – has a maintenance unit, central storage areas, water treatment system, sewerage treatment system, medical waste treatment system, a mortuary, a kitchen, physiotherapy unit, maternity and child care unit, pharmacy, laundry, and a parking space for more than 100 cars.

“The hospital has four operating theatres, covering different specialties – a radiology department equipped with ultrasound, echocardiography, x-ray machines; and a laboratory,” Graphic reported.

President Akufo-Addo reiterated his government’s commitment to fairly share the national cake when speaking at the inauguration.

He was hopeful the hospital would improve healthcare delivery in the vicinity.

President Akufo-Addo advised the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service, the community and staff of the hospital to ensure that the hospital is well maintained in order to serve the purpose for which it was constructed.

Healthcare is a necessity, I hope most of the villages and towns in Ghana will have facilities like this. Hospitals are some of the facilities which need not be politicized—if substantive governments will do their best to construct more of these, many lives would be saved. Lastly, they don’t have to wait till election years before they think of doing the needful.
