Ghanaian highlife musician, Nana Yaw Kumi, well known as Kumi Guitar, has stated that most songs of Kuami Eugene cannot be classified as Highlife.
He clarified that the majority of songs churned out by the Lynx Entertainment artiste are Afro.
Kumi Guitar, however, described the 2020 VGMA Artiste of the Year as a beautiful musician.
“I think he has certain songs that fall under highlife but most of his songs sound like Afro. That is my candid opinion. I don’t know what somebody might think or how somebody will challenge it. It doesn’t mean he is not a beautiful artiste. He is one of the beautiful artistes Ghana has experienced,” he said in an interview with GNA.
Kumi Guitar also bemoaned over how some organizers of award schemes mistook Afro songs as Highlife songs and put them under highlife categories.
