MTN Ghana To Increase Data, Talk Time Charges

Ghanaian telecommunication company, MTN has announced its decision to increase the charges of data and talk time.

In a statement sighted by Newshuntermag.com, MTN Ghana stated that the increment is a result of the 1 per cent COVID levy implemented by the government.

According to them, the increment will take effect from Saturday 1st May 2021.

“Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) wishes to inform you that following the introduction of the COVID-19 Health Recovery Levy, which has resulted in a 1% increase in the National Health Insurance Levy, talk time and data charges have been adjusted to reflect the tax change.

“This takes effect from 1st May 2021,” MTN Ghana announced.

The government of Ghana introduced in the 2021 budget statement a Covid-19 Health Levy of a one percentage point increase in the National Health Insurance Levy and a one percentage point increase in the VAT Flat Rate to support expenditures related to Covid-19.

“To provide the requisite resources to address these challenges and fund these activities, government is proposing the introduction of a Covid-19 Health Levy of a one percentage point increase in the National Health Insurance Levy and a one percentage point increase in the VAT Flat Rate to support expenditures related to Covid-19,” the leader of Government Business, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu said on Friday, March 12, 2021, when reading the budget on the floor of Parliament.
