The Australian High Commissioner to Ghana His Excellency Andrew Barnes, has indicated that the recent Visa fraud that hit the Commonwealth Games would not affect or mar the beauty of the event underway in Australia.
Answering questions from Suncity Radio’s Nana KAS, Monday morning on the issue, Mr Barnes said there were a number of people from other countries pretending to attend the games as Journalists, but could not prove their merit.
“Some of them could not even tell the Media House they belonged to, nor had media equipment and gadgets for the mission. In fact they were not genuine travellers.”
Throwing some light on the acquisition of Visas for Australia, the High Commissioner disclosed that his country has no Visa Centre in Ghana yet, but in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.
He said one need to apply online and have the Biometric registration at the Movenpic Hotel in Accra, and then, the forms are sent to Nairobi for processing.
He said he has no regrets on the issue because it was not limited to Ghana alone, and indicated that the scandal would not make Visa acquisition any difficult.
“Genuine and qualified applicants would travel to Australia without any difficulty,” he assured.
On the on-going Commonwealth games, Mr Barnes expressed delight at his country hosting such a big event, and commended the Ghanaian Athletes at the games for their sterling performances which would make the nation proud.
His Excellency Andrew Barnes described Ghanaians as warm and lovely people, and was hopeful to visit the Brong Ahafo region soon and feature live at the studios of Suncity Radio in Sunyani.

About 50 supposedly Ghanaian Journalists were said to have been denied entry into Australia for the 2018 Commonwealth Games due to fraudulent Visa acquisition.
