Ghanaian Disc Jockey, DJ Vyrusky, has complained about the powers that social media has taken away from disc jockeys (DJs).
He stated in a recent interview that the availability of social media platforms like TikTok has placed a limit on the dominance of DJs.
When it comes to promos, DJ Vyrusky said artistes now target social media influencers before they even think of contacting DJs.
He bemoaned that DJs do not have the power to break or play songs first like they used to do.
“People go through TikTok. If you go out, every DJ wants to play the hit songs….When you go to a party and you’re playing songs, the audience goes like, ‘play the songs trending now’. The club owner will be like ‘look sharp, people are leaving,” he said in an interview on Guide Radio.
“I was like let me club-hop for the night and it was the same songs I heard from every place I went. When a DJ tries to play something new, they feel he/she is not good,” DJ Vyrusky added.
