Choral Musical Festival Held In Dormaa Ahenkro To Promote Transparency And Accountability

It was to create an opportunity for the organisers to educate the participants on the need to pay their tax, as part of a project the two organizations were implementing in the Municipality.
The project is being funded by Star Ghana and aimed at helping the Municipal Assembly to improve on its revenue mobilization as well as strengthening transparency and accountability in the utilization of the revenue.
Mr Raphael Godlove Ahenu, Chief Executive Officer of GLOMEF, said it was an offence to evade tax and adviced all participants to pay their taxes.
He said the assembly would be able to meet the development needs of the people if the people paid their taxes regularly.
According to Mr Ahenu, the constitution also task the government to account to the people after their payment of taxes.
He said every responsible citizen has the right to ask for accountability from the various assemblies.
Hon. Gordon Asubonteng, Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive said the government is there to serve the people, so they should support the government to serve them better through taxation payment.
He expressed concern that many Municipal and District Assemblies were not able to achieve their development plans because partisan politics had gotten into the District Assembly Concept and divided assembly members.
Hon. Asubonteng showed appreciation to the organisers and call for an initiative of a yearly choral musical festival at the municipality.
Rev. Joseph Owusu Atuahene, Superintendent Minister of Methodist Church, Dormaa circuit urged religious leaders to promote the development of the nation through taxation. “we need to pay our tax as christians, let us be responsible.”
He also called on musians to promote taxation through their music. “Let’s hear the voice of christian musicians with meaning and positive on our society.”
