Rihanna has released ‘Lift Me Up’, the leading track for the ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ soundtrack.
The song was unleashed on Friday, October 28, 2022, after teasing her fans a few days ago.
This release ends the popular singer’s six years hiatus of releasing a single.
‘Lift Me Up’ is an emotional ballad written as a tribute to the life and legacy of Chadwick Boseman.
“Lift me up / hold me down / keep me close, safe and sound.
“Drowning in an endless sea/ Take some time and stay with me/ Keep me in the strength of your arms,” Rihanna signs. “Keep me safe/ Safe and sound.”
“Lift Me Up’ is a tribute to actor Chadwick Boseman, who starred in the original “Black Panther” movie and sadly passed away on November 2020 at age 43 after battling colon cancer.
The song was co-written with Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems, Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Gransson and “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler, according to Disney-owned Marvel. It will be released on Rihanna’s Westbury Road label in partnership with Roc Nation, Def Jam Recordings and Hollywood Records.
“After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people who I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them,” Tems said in a statement.
“Rihanna has been an inspiration to me, so hearing her convey this song is a great honor,” Tems added.
Meanwhile, the soundtrack for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” will be made available on November 4.
The film will also hit theatres on November 11, 2022.
Rihanna’s second song for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack is titled ‘Born Again’.
