Artisans in the Brong Ahafo Region have raised concerns over the certifications of the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI).

CEO of New Start For Artisans and Technicians Movement, Mr. Boahen Kofi Philip, speaking in an interview with the News Hunter Magazine said most of the artisans in the region cannot afford to pay for the proficiency test and thus appealed to the NVTI Board to reduce the cost.

According to him, most artisans lose contracts due to their inability to acquire a certificate.

“Some of us are very good but we struggle to win contracts because of certification issues. Something should be done about the cost…we are willing to partake in the NVTI program so government and all stakeholders should come into our aid.”

Mr. Boahen Philip also lamented on low publicity of the NVTI programs.

“We hardly hear about it when the time is due for the proficiency test. It will help if they hype it like the BECE and WASSCE examinations. The educational background of most of the artisans is very low, so the education must go down well.

“The certificate must also be upgraded. Many Ghanaian youth will love to venture into this field if we invest into this sector,” he stated.
