630 People Benefited From Suncity Medical Outreach’s Free Eye Screening

The first phase of the “Operation Restore Your Sight” pre-surgical eye screening exercise organized by the Suncity Medical Outreach team has ended successfully.

The five days program which commenced on the 6th to 10th of February 2023 saw over 600 people, mostly residents of the Sunyani East and West Municipalities and its surrounding communities, Bono East, Ahafo, among others receiving care.

Out of the total number of participants who benefited from the exercise, about hundred and three (103) people were diagnosed with cataracts whilst 10 people and four others were diagnosed with pterygium and prosthesis respectively.

Speaking on Suncity Radio, the Dean of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Development Studies (UDS) Professor Stephen Tabiri, who spearheaded the program alongside the CEO of Suncity Group of Companies, Mr Ransford Antwi, disclosed that, 130 people have been booked to undergo surgery during the second phase of the program, on a date to be announced soon.
He added that some beneficiaries with mild cases were given medicated glasses and medications at 20 (twenty cedis) respectively.

Prof. Tabiri thanked the medical team and sponsors for their immense support towards the successful completion of the program.

He further indicated that there will be a third phase of the exercise which will focus on school-going children.

Dates for the second and third phases will be communicated to the general public in due course.
