A Kenyan woman, Mary Njeri, has been arrested in Ghana for smuggling 11.04 kilogrammes of cocaine at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
The cocaine is reported to be worth $309,120.
She was arrested by officials of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) during routine checks at the arrival hall after disembarking from a South African Airways flight from Nairobi to Accra via Johannesburg.
“A search of her luggage revealed packages of Cremora food that contained the concealed drugs,” a statement issued by NACOC on Tuesday, April 18 said.
The 35-year-old Kenyan woman confirmed possession of the luggage and she was later subjected to interrogation.
Currently, Mary Njeri is in custody—as authorities are doing further investigations.
The exhibits have been sent to the Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) for analysis and report.
Following her arrest on Saturday, April 15, 2023, NACOC has assured the public that it will continue its effort to reduce the drug trafficking threat to Ghana.
