Veteran Ghanaian highlife musician, Amakye Dede, has claimed the ‘King of Future Highlife’ crown bestowed on Kuami Eugene was given to him by Kiki Banson.
If you would recall, the veteran musician crowned Eugene as the ‘King of Future Highlife’ at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) stage.
This ignited a lot of debate in the country.
Years after the incident, the highlife legend disclosed he was forced to do what he did.
Speaking in a recent interview with Abeiku Santana, he named KiKi Banson as the person who masterminded the act.
“I am telling you straightforwardly that Kiki was the one who gave me the crown. He was the one who forced me to crown Eugene. When he initially gave it to me, I gave it to one of my boys, Robberman, to put it down. Because it wasn’t my intention, they forced me to do it. If you like, you can call Kiki and confirm whether he wasn’t the one who gave me the crown. Call him right now,” he said.
When the Abeiku queried if he was talking about Kiki Banson, Amakye Dede replied: “Why should he do this to me?”
Nonetheless, Robert Klah, the Head of Public Events and Communication at Charterhouse, has stated that they knew nothing about the crowning session.
“We did not orchestrate any crowning session. So, I am a bit lost when it comes to the assertion that event organizers are responsible,” he emphasised.
