Multiple award-winning gospel singer, Sonnie Badu has said that it was better Black Sherif won the Artiste of the Year title at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) instead of Piesie Esther.

According to him, even though Piesie Esther is a remarkable artist, Black Sherif is in a better position to represent Ghana on a global scale.

His comments come in light of Blacko’s recent Best International Flow award at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards.

“Black Sherif just received an award in the US. That’s what Ghana wants. If I was part of the entertainment fraternity, everybody [would] project that guy. That’s what Nigerians do,” he said in an interview on Daybreak Hitz which was monitored by Newshuntermag.com.

He added that Black Sherif’s victory is a victory for Ghana, therefore, it is important for the music industry to provide him with the necessary support to put the country on the map.

“He has everything it takes to take Ghana to that place at this moment. We have to be deliberate. If I was an entertainment minister, I would look out for this guy. What we need to do is to project him in this season. It’s his time now. Everybody has their own time. It’s a Ghana agenda and not an individualistic agenda. Black Sherif is from Ghana, if he wins then Ghana wins,” he explained.

Although the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards will premiere on October 10, a recorded snippet of the event hit the internet on Wednesday morning which showed Black Sherif getting on stage to receive the award.
