Ghanaian record producer Edward Nana Poku Osei popularly known as Hammer, who has been active in the music industry since 1998 has admitted that hip life is still growing and improving day-in and day-out.
The CEO of the Last Two music group speaking in an interview with Ike Frimpong on Loud in Gh on Sunyani based Sky Fm said Hip life is an improving of Hip hop which was adopted.
“Hip life has been evolving ever since it came, and has been part of a broader picture which is hip pop. Rap has always been about hip pop, so we can not walk away from that.”
When asked if hip life has to have an element of rap into it with our own high life, he said: “It has always been hip pop and rap. I don’t know anything about high life but I know that Hip life has always been about hip pop in our local stuff, so it is not about high life for me. High life is always high life.
He added, “If some musicians decide to use high life beat to rap, it doesn’t mean hip pop is becoming high life or hip pop has become high life. It’s just that, hip life has always been our local hip pop. It just evolved from Jama, Azonto to whatever…but it just evolving because of the dances that come and go.”
According to Hammer, there has been a tremendous improvement in the music industry as, “artistes are being paid well, artistes are capable of building houses now, unlike first when the money was not good enough…I don’t know about you but I consider that as an improvement.”
