Popular Ghanaian filmmaker, Socrate Safo, opened up about what is causing the slip of the Ghana movie industry.
Socrate, who doubles as the chairman of the Ghana Classification Board, averred ignorance and the lack of education had affected the Ghanaian movie industry.
According to him, most of the people who are interested in the movie industry entered with only passion without getting any proper orientation.
He indicated that the lack of structured guidance and education has not been helpful.
Because many talents did not have any orientation before joining, the filmmaker said they did not know the realities of the industry.
“It’s not growing as it’s supposed to be; it’s still facing challenges. From what I have seen, it started with ignorance. We did a whole lot of things out of ignorance, and it gave us challenges. It brought us on our knees.
“We didn’t understand the industry; most of us came in without the proper orientation. We didn’t receive the orientation about the industry; we entered out of passion.
“You had the talent, but nobody sat you down to give you that orientation. ‘We do this because of ABCD; we don’t do this because of ABCD’ – you didn’t get that. Nobody ever did,” Socrate Safo stated during an interview on 3FM.
