Following the initiation of ‘Resilient City For Adolescents’ by Foundation Botnar, Ecorys, Global Media Foundation and Citizens Watch Ghana, pupils in Baakoniaba, a suburb of Sunyani in the Bono Region of Ghana, have made a complaint about their road network.
These pupils raised several challenges they are facing during a community engagement session with them at the Baakoniaba Palace on Friday, July 19, 2024.
Poor and dusty roads, unstable electricity, unsteady water supply, and sanitation issues were some of the challenges mentioned by these pupils when the Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF) and its partners engaged them.
They, therefore, pleaded with the Sunyani Municipal Assembly, authorities and the government to help solve these challenges.
These pupils were from different schools in Baakoniaba. Their challenges were penned down by ‘Adolescents MPs’—who were present at the engagement forum and incepted by GLOMEF some months ago.
The ‘Adolescents MPs’ will discuss these challenges at their parliament, as the Founder and Executive Director of Global Media Foundation, Raphael Godlove Ahenu told Newshuntermag.com in an exclusive interview a few days ago following a policy hearing forum at the Tyco City Hotel in Sunyani-Ghana on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
When speaking at the Baakoniaba community engagement with the kids, Mr Godlove Ahenu opened up about plans to train and offer employable skills to the vulnerable youth in the Sunyani municipalities.
This training, he said, includes beads making, soap production, and make-up application, among others. He believes this will enable them to have decent lives.
Nana Akwasi Owusu I, the Chief of Baakoniaba, beseeched authorities to help address the challenges raised by the kids.
He further advised the pupils to be respectful and study hard—so that Baakoniaba will have prominent individuals hailing from the area in the near future.
News Hunter Magazine was present at the event to give our audience an accurate report about this incredible initiative spearheaded by the Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF)—and funded by Foundation Botnar (Fondation Botnar).
