CITIZENS IN SUNYANI CRIES OVER RECENT UTILITY HIKE IN GHANA
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) on Wednesday 25th of sept
announced a near 79 per cent increase in electricity tariffs to enable
providers to recover cost and to improve capital investment.
Water tariffs have also gone up by 52 per cent, Mr Samuel Sarpong,
Executive Secretary of the PURC announced at a media conference.
The new tariffs, took effective from October 1, is a major
adjustment since June 2010.
"It is the hope of the Commission that this tariff adjustment is going
to assist the utility service providers to undertake critical
investments that impact and ensure the availability of adequate and
reliable supply in electricity,"
Prior to this hike the news hunter (KOK) gathered this from the
streets of the Brong Ahafo regional capital (Sunyani).

And i asked again please what's the difference before the increment?
She retorted i can only tell you when you bring your old receipt for
me to compare and tell you the difference now.
Again how will this hike help your outfit?
I don't know she said.
SOME VIEWS BY THE PEOPLE IN SUNYANI
WHAT'S YOUR VIEW ON THE RECENT UTILITY TARIFF INCREMENT?
ERIC SAID-: Why should we live in a country like this? utility tariffs
high, strike every where, no payment for pupil teachers for over a
year now, no allowance for teacher-traineers. why? Oh Ghana
hmmmm…….God save us!
BERTHA: I am very disappointed in this government, we will not get
better services even after paying the 80 percent increment.
VINCENT: Ghana oohh Ghana. Hmmmm is this what our fore-fathers died
for? Honestly speaking Ghana is collapsing…..it's very bad.
OPOKU: ,Infact it's not easy i bought
50ghc of power for my work place and less than
a week, the meter is alarming which means it's
hungry for another load. Is this the better Ghana
agenda? People let's rise against any
properganda political party(s) weather Npp or
