The search for a new queen for this year's Miss
Tourism competition has begun and as part of
efforts to select the best contestants for the
pageant, the search train is back to Accra for the
final audition which comes off at the Max
International Hotel, East Legon, on Saturday,
August 2.
The hopeful aspirants, between the ages of 18
and 24, are expected to be grilled by the judges
to select the final 10 contestants for the
competition.
The 10 contestants who make the cut will be
housed in Accra's premier Crown Apartamento
Hotel for a three-week training boot camp.
Officials of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and
Creative Arts, the Ghana Tourism Authority, and
the Ghana Tourism Federation will brief them on
the nation's tourism sector and upcoming
initiatives.
Those that can best articulate and demonstrate
specific regional values, including customary
dances, will be chosen to face off in the
September 19 grand finale at the National Theatre
where the eventual winner would be selected.
"The girls do not have to hail from a region to
represent it," Mrs. Brew-Hammond, Events and
Operations Director of the pageant explained.
"Whoever ultimately wins will showcase Ghana as
a whole so we are looking for smart ladies who
can sell Ghana effectively."
The winner of the Miss Tourism Ghana crown will
represent the nation at Miss Tourism World, and
act as Ghana's tourism and environmental youth
Ambassador at official events in Ghana and
internationally.
'We are not looking for a beauty queen, we are
looking for the young lady who can be trained to
best represent Ghana's beauty," Mrs Brew-
Hammond stressed.
