A level 200 student of the University of Cape Coast in the Central

region is reported dead of food poisoning.

The university has also recorded 177 cases of diarrhea and vomiting,

all traced to the consumption of two suspected local dishes, 'Waakye'

and Kenkey.

The university's Director of Health Services, Dr. Kabiru Azeez

explained to Joy FM's correspondent Richard Kwadwo Nyarko that out of

the 177; 117 were confirmed cases of cholera and 60 of them were food

poisoning.

For fear of further endangering the lives of students, the university

authorities have ordered the closure of about 12 food-vending stalls

on campus.

It was also to ensure that the four confirmed cholera deaths in the

region did not extend to the campus.

Some students, who spoke to Richard, said they had diarrhea, which

persisted for three days and was getting worse.
