“Some people have a heart of gold; others have a heart of stone; some
people have a broken heart; others have a hole-in-heart; some need
restoration; others need salvation; for some it’s appreciation; others
need your donation”.

These are the introductory lyrics in Nii Okai’s VGMA award-winning song
– Saving Hearts, which features Dr Ijeoma Mekomam and doubles as the
theme song for his Saving Hearts Project.

The Saving Hearts Project was launched in December 2013 in
commemoration of the 10th anniversary of Nii Okai’s debut hit album –
Moko be. The project seeks to raise funding for 10 heart surgeries to
benefit 10 needy Ghanaians under the age of 10, in collaboration with
the Ghana Heart Foundation.

The project song was recorded live and released last year as part of
the awareness campaign for the Saving Hearts Tour which hit several
parts of the country and beyond, notably Takoradi, Kumasi, Koforidua,
Accra and the United Kingdom where well-meaning Ghanaians, corporate
organisations and church groups donated graciously towards the project.

“We started off the year with 2 successful surgeries in favour of
Frimpong Kuma and Godsway Egli, and 2 others are currently undergoing
tests and final approvals for us to make the necessary payments. This
endorsement by the World Bank via the VGMA award is testament to the
fact that God is with us and the boundary lines have indeed fallen for
us in pleasant places. I want to dedicate this award to all teammates,
partners and beneficiaries of the Saving Hearts Project and softly urge
corporate Ghana to come on board”. Comments Nii Okai upon winning the
award.

House of Virtue, Nii Okai’s management, is currently planning an
unprecedented launch of his Saving Hearts album on Friday ‘May Day’ and
promises a trend-setting product which will raise more funding for the
Saving Hearts Project. Trinity, one of the tracks on the album is said
to be already topping some music charts and putting smiles on the faces
of ‘Mokobe’ lovers.
