A 67-year-old man from Nakuru county wants to attend high school and university and become a teacher.
Peter Mutomo, a small-scale farmer from Matumaini location, said returning to school in January will help him fulfill his dream of becoming a secondary school teacher.
“I dropped out of Elburgon Harambee Secondary school in 1969 due to financial problems. I am convinced I will pass because I have been bright since my childhood,” Mutomo said.
“I am sure I have not fully exploited the potential I was given by God and I am not what He meant me to be. Life has taught me enough lessons and I am now moving towards my goal.”
Mutomo, who dropped out in form two, said he did casual jobs and that he had been tied down by the responsibilities that came with marriage.
The father of six said, who wants to teach Kiswahili and Christian Religious Education, said he approached Molo MP Jacob Macharia and sought his financial assistance.
He said the MP was “impressed” by his fluency in Kiswahili and instructed him to get an admission letter then apply for bursary at the constituency office.
Noting that only two of his children completed secondary education, Mutomo said he would also like to inpire the rest to pursue their studies.
“I do not want to transmit the problem to my kids; I want to be a role model to them. Even though they are married, their age allows them to do well if they are determined,” he said.
Mutomo said he is “certain” he will do well and later join university and teach.
