The Brong Ahafo Mental Health requires 1.2 million Ghana Cedis to
effectively address mental Health in the region.
The regional Mental Health Coordinator, Mr Joseph Yere disclosed that the
unit presented a budget to the Ministry of Health hoping it will be approved
very soon.
“Each patient for six months treatment will not cost less than 3,000
Ghana Cedis,” he noted.
Speaking to Kwasi Debrah of SKY NEWS, the mental health Coordinator,
reiterated that mental health problem is a huge challenge in the region and
adequate budgetary support is needed to address the problem.
He said the Unit has intensified surveillance to ensure that the mentally
deranged in the region are put on medication.
According to Mr. Yere, strict adherence to the drugs could cure most of the
mental illnesses.
But the regional Mental Health Coordinator was worried that some parents
hide their children with mental illness in homes.
