I Felt Unappreciated After The VGMAS – Pappy Kojo

Jason Gaisie  popularly
known as Pappy Kojo, a Ghanaian hip hop and hiplife recording artist from
Takoradi, in an exclusive interview on Sky FM, Sunyani, has registered his
disappointment in  fans and people from
his home town, Takoradi.

He made these remarks when he was granting an interview as part
of efforts to promote his latest release “Nyame Bra” with Ike
Frimpong of Sky Fm, Sunyani on Saturday. According to Pappy who was in
a “great spirit” in his own words, he expected a much refreshing
treatment from his fan base in Takoradi rather than the mockery, and that
happens to be the main idea behind the song.

“I just felt unappreciated after the whole VGMAs, because I
felt like if I have a brother and he loses a football match, I wouldn’t bash my
brother. So I felt everything I have been doing to put Takoradi on the map has
been in vain. There’s not even a track that I don’t rep Takoradi, am just
trying to put my people out because we have it all, every artist there is dope
so I don’t see why we shouldn’t be dominating.
Pappy who was crowded up in emotions, went ahead to describe the
treatment received as ungrateful “Sometimes I don’t feel welcomed at Takoradi,
but that’s where I come from, that’s where I grew up. All the people coming
against me are people I went to school with, people I sat in the same class
with. I feel they don’t love me” he added.
Pappy Kojo the ay3 late hitmaker after releasing his ‘Awoa’ song
seems not to forget ever mentioning actress Yvonne Nelson’s name in the awesome
tune.
The rapper and actress have become very close ever since the
release of the Awoa song and we only deem it appropriate to ask whether they
are dating or not, But Pappy in a jovial way refused to comment on that
controversial topic. He said “That is my own problem, it’s my personal
life”.
If we are to make a list of marketable and relevant artistes in
Ghana presently, clearly, the names of rappers, Joey B and Pappy Kojo will
certainly pop up.
For the past year or more, they have almost become two of the
‘hottest’ brands in Gh. Hip hop and Ghanaian music in general – with an amazing
list of hit songs and high-profile concerts.
The duo has successfully collaborated on “Wave” and “Realer No”
– two bangers that propelled Pappy to his VGMA nomination. Questions that
always comes up is “are they a group or planning on forming one”?
When asked, Pappy replied saying, “Joey is my brother, which
everybody knows and people that I love, I keep mentioning them all the time in
my songs, it’s obvious he’s my brother whether or not we do a song. I did most
of my songs with Joey because I love recording with him and he will always be
that special person in my heart”
The “Awoa” star also shared with Listeners of Sky fm
96.7 mhz his upcoming single titled “vandame” which drops soon. He
also revealed his Debut Album is to be expected later this year or early 2017.
The most recent trend by most Ghanaian artists is the
simultaneous release of audio and video of their latest songs. Most of them are
of the conviction that it creates a pictorial feel of whatever is being said in
the song. Pappy had this to say about why he also follows that trend “That’s
my way of doing it,I love visuals. It makes me love the song more,if I hear a
song, I need to see and believe what you are talking about.”
“Nyame Bra” was released earlier this week and was
produced by Lexyz and mastered by Guilty beatz, and video directed by
Abstrakte.
