Widows in the Tain Communities of the Brong Ahafo Region have appealed to the government to set up an independent fund that will be used to cater for the needs of widows across the nation.

According to them, the ‘Widows Fund’ will not only help in making life meaningful to them, but more bearable, especially the aged-widows who cannot work to earn a living.

Speaking in an interview with www.newshuntermag.com, a widow, Mary Kyerewaa attributed the major challenge facing the majority of widows in the country is their inability to pay the school fees of their children.

She sadly stated that their old ages do not allow them to work in order to survive.

The Tain District Director of Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Mr Francis Mensah told this reporter that his outfit will do whatever they can to put smiles on the faces of widows and orphans in the area.

He bemoaned the situation whereby the society at large ignores widows and orphans to suffer soon after the death of their husbands or caretakers.

Mr Mensah advised Ghanaians to show love and support the needy in the society.
