Popular Ghanaian musician, Ofori Amponsah is not happy about how Awards Organizers are treating musicians.

According to him, these organizers secure sponsorships through the use of musicians’ names and influence.

After this, all that they give to these musicians are plaques and there is nothing like monetary gains benefiting the musicians when the awards are held.

He stressed that many musicians are suffering financially because their focus has been on awards instead of getting money.

Looking at this, Ofori Amponsah said he won’t be part of any award scheme if the organizers are not going to pay him.

He also called on his colleagues to do the same.

“For me if someone calls me for an award and he/she does not give me money I won’t go. If they won’t give me anything valuable I won’t go. I past receiving plaques. I have decided and I’m calling on all my colleagues to do the same or else they are the same people who will laugh at us in future.

“It’s because of the musicians the people come to fill the venue. It’s because of the musician that the sponsorship comes through. If there is a programme and they can give out a house as the price, then why can’t they do the same for artistes?” the ‘Alewa’ composer uttered in an interview with Adom FM.
