I Started Doing Music At The Age Of 12 – Medikal

Fast emerging Ghanaian Rapper and singer
Samuel Frimpong, widely Known by his stage name Medikal, made lots of  interesting revelations on Loud In Gh With
Ike Frimpong on Saturday June 18th 2016.

 The Artiste who has been
in the Music scene for two years now signed on to AMG records owned by Criss
Waddle said he began doing music at the age of twelve (12), but took things a
step further and professionally just two years ago.

Medikal also talked about
the overwhelming response he has received from his fans so far, stating that he
feels that they are gradually understanding his craft, ”They are actually
falling in love with my music. My art keeps growing little by little so I think
they are buying into my music and falling in love with it.”

When asked the type of
music he is into, he explained that he does other types of music aside what he is
popularly known for “I do all types of music, I even have an upcoming azonto
tune as in a danceable tune with Bisa K dei which drops next month. I don’t do just
hip hop.”

He expressed his views on
the growth of Hip Hop now in Ghana. He said Hip Hop in Ghana has come a long
way and gave credits to his fellow Musicians like Sarkodie, El, Joey B, Kwaw
kese and others for a job well done.

Speaking on the current
sensational masterpiece “connect” where he mimicked several artiste including
his CEO Cris waddle, Medikal revealed that he imitated all those talented
Rappers because they were all artistes he admired and looks up to “The idea
behind connect was to let people know the guys in the rap game here in Ghana
are actually Dope and I just wanted to Acknowledge them”

Commenting on words from
his compatriot Joey B which stated that he is the future of Hip Hop in Ghana,
Medikal shared with Sky Fm that it meant a great deal to him to have received
such encouraging words from such an Artiste.

‘’It made me feel very
awesome and Great because Joey B is also a big role model to me, he is very
good…So coming from someone I really adore it’s very overwhelming”

Again, he had much to say
about Joey B and his relationship with him as well working with him on ‘FOH’.

“He is awesome actually;
the song is off his upcoming Album which drops soon. He’s that type of person
who really likes to Vibe, and very free. We got into talking and the song was
done; he’s a very positive person.”

Off all the songs he has
to his credit, the rapper revealed that his favorite out of the lots would be
his ‘confirm’ song.

 “My favorite song will be “confirm” it’s a song I really
love and always keep in my playlist.”

Lyrics from most rappers we know are often
inspired by women or other matters of the heart ,but in Medikal’s case, He
dedicated the song to himself.  

“I didn’t dedicate it to anybody ,I actually
dedicated it to myself because it talks about my Life and me going through some
kind of stress but I can say that am now okay, so it’s my breakthrough song.”       

Many are those who would
jump around and walk shoulders high with the fame he has achieved but the AMG
member, outlined he still considers himself as an ‘underground’ artiste who is
yet to be uncovered. 

“I’m not there already,
am not anywhere yet am still an underground artist. I work every day it doesn’t
matter, even when am given an award ,am still underground artist because this
is not where I want to be, I want my music to cross boarders and inspire
people, till then am still underground.

He is currently working
on two Major projects, a Hip Hop and Azonto song. “Am dropping “By heart boys”
in two weeks, the world should watch out for this, it’s a hip hop song after
that one, the one with Bisa K dei follows,” he added.
