Tributes are pouring for Brazilian soccer legend, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, popularly known as Pelé.

Pelé passed on at the age of 82.

His death sadly occurred on Thursday, December 29, 2022.

He has been battling illness for some time now.

The football legend was admitted to a hospital in São Paulo in late November for a respiratory infection and complications related to colon cancer.

Pelé’s daughter, Kely Nascimento wrote in a post on Instagram: “Everything that we are, is thanks to you, we love you infinitely. Rest in peace.”

He played in four World Cups and is the only player to win three in the history of the world tournament.

“I was born to play football, just like Beethoven was born to write music and Michelangelo was born to paint,” Pelé famously stated.

Popular figures in world football have paid tribute to him.

Brazilian footballer Neymar wrote on Instagram: “He turned football into art, into entertainment. He gave a voice to the poor, to black people and especially: He gave visibility to Brazil. Football and Brazil have raised their status thanks to the King!”

“Looking at the number of years I promise to release this song, it is now seven good years. This means that, the music was produced seven years ago. Therefore I have not tagged anyone in this song”, he added.

Cristiano Ronaldo bid “a mere “goodbye” to the eternal King Pelé will never be enough to express the pain that currently engulfs the entire football world.”

Kylian Mbappé also wrote: “The king of football has left us but his legacy will never be forgotten.”
