The Suncity Medical Outreach Team has announced plans to organize free Eye Surgeries at the Kwatire Polyclinic, in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region.
According to the Dean of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Development Studies (UDS) Professor Stephen Tabiri, the CEO of Suncity Radio, Mr Ransford Antwi as always, has volunteered to provide the team accommodation, feeding and other medical supplies to ensure that the program is possible. He considered the free Eye Screening and Surgeries as part of his efforts in giving back to society and also ensuring sustainable healthcare delivery in the Bono Region.
Speaking on Suncity Radio, Prof. Stephen Tabiri disclosed that, most people in Ghana have problems with their sight, however, due to negligence and lack of adequate resources to seek medical attention their problem deteriorates and renders them blind.
This He said has triggered their move to organize a free eye screening and surgery for the people of the Bono Region.
“We organize several surgical services every year, however, through my research, I realized there are lots of people in this country with severe eye problems which they don’t pay attention to. These issues come as a result of negligence and lack of adequate resources to go for regular medical check-ups hence the decision to organize free eye screening” Prof. Stephen Tabiri stated.
According to him, They undertook the same exercise last year at the Tamale Teaching Hospital which saw many people benefiting from it.
He urged the general public, particularly individuals with eye problems to take advantage of the opportunity to get their eyes checked.
The screening exercise is scheduled to take place from 5th February to 11th February 2023 at Kwatire Polyclinic. According to him, once that is completed, a date will be fixed for the surgeries when a team of seasoned optometrists will travel to Kwatire for the exercise.
He further entreated all interested persons to come along with their Health Insurance cards on the scheduled date.
Interested persons are again encouraged to visit the Kwatire Polyclinic to register before the stipulated date.
