About three (3) groups in the Bono Region are displeased with the recent happenings at the Berekum College of Education.
The groups made up of Sunyani Youth Development Association, Sunyani Youth for Development Association and Bonoman Institute complained about an act exhibited by the Governing Council of Berekum College of Education.
During a press conference at Sunyani in the Bono Region—which Newshuntermag.com covered, leaders of the groups claimed Dr Mrs Vida Korang, a Senior Lecturer at the Catholic University of Ghana has been discriminated against by the Governing Council of Berekum College of Education.
Despite scoring the highest marks in the interview process, these groups bemoaned over how Dr Mrs Vida Korang was not given the green light to lead the Berekum College of Education as the Principal.
“We have petitioned Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the matter as the decision by the Governing Council not to appoint Dr Mrs Vida Korang is an affront to fairness and a heavy dent on Ghana’s quest to achieve Gender Equality (Goal 5), and Inequality (Goal 10) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Their action also breached some relevant provisions of the 1992 constitution of Ghana pursuant to (Article 17 (1) (2) (3) and 296,” Mr Atta Akoto Senior, the President Of Sunyani Youth Development Association told a section of the media in Sunyani on Sunday, August 20, 2023.
He indicated that aside from the petition presented to CHRAJ to investigate, some significant offices and personalities have also been petitioned and others have also been copied to intervene in the matter.
The groups have threatened to demonstrate if authorities do not do anything about their petition.
