Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo has explained the motivations behind her recently rendered apology to the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Her apology stems from concerns surrounding her extended absence from Parliament in the previous year, causing her seat to become vacant.

According to the MP, she intends to reclaim her seat during the party’s primaries next year in February.

“I still have a lot to do for my people and I have to take the pain to explain to them the reasons for my absence…I shall not desert my people, I shall represent them again by God’s grace, and I think that my people still love me,” she said to Metro TV during a constituency tour.

Absence from Parliament and Apology

MP Adwoa Safo has for the past year been absent from Parliament and is reported to have traveled to the United States. Following her exit, there arose calls for her seat to be declared vacant.

Her absence had been a topical issue in the country last year and she was consequently dragged to the Privileges Committee back in 2022.

In a video circulating on social media, MP Adwoa Safo was seen rendering an unreserved apology to the leaders of the NPP, explaining the reasons behind her absence from the House, citing personal and family issues.

She asked for forgiveness from the rank and file of her party as well as her supporters, saying her actions were not borne out of disrespect.

“I would like to apologize to all of you for my behavior sometime back. I would like to say that it wasn’t intended or planned to disrespect you all.

I was faced with so many personal and family issues. I would like to plead with you in the name of the Lord, my regional executives, Greater Accra, constituency executives, the headquarters of NPP, the General Secretary and National Chairman, and all your workers. I beg you, supporters, and sympathizers who love the party and loved me and have faith in the constituency, please forgive me for all that has happened,” she said.
