Electoral Commission Begins Limited Voters’ Registration Today Despite Injunction

The Electoral Commission has today, September 12, begun the Limited Voters’ Registration exercise across the nation at its 268 district offices.

The exercise is commencing even though the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and some other minority parties have filed an injunction against the EC at the Supreme Court. They contend that the exercise will cause disenfranchisement of several young voters, especially those in rural areas.

The exercise will span three weeks, from today September 12 until Monday, October 2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Around 300 people are expected to be registered daily at all the district offices and at least 1,350,000 individuals are projected to be enrolled onto the register at the end of the exercise. These numbers mainly constitute persons who have turned 18 since the last activity 3 years ago.

The EC has encouraged all unregistered persons who have either turned 18 or could not partake in the 2020 registration exercise due to some reasons to visit their district offices with their Ghana Card or Passport to participate in the exercise.
