GHANA: Student Commits Sui-ci.de For Failure To Obtain 8As
For failing to obtain the required grades to enroll into a medical school, a 19-year-old student of Saint Thomas Aquinas Senior High School has ended his life, by hanging himself.
The incident occurred in his living room at Odorkor Official Town, in Accra, last Saturday morning.
The deceased, Samuel Kwame Kissi obtained grades in the just-ended West Africa Secondary Certificate Exterminations (EASSCE) which fell short of the required Eight “As”.
According to the police, he took the action because his friends had eight “As” which qualified them for admission to the medical school. His death sent shock waves through the family and attracted residents of the area to the scene. Family members and residents wailed while others came around to catch a glimpse of him.
The Odorkor District Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Emmanuel Osei Agbogah told The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday that his outfit received a report from the deceased mother Mary Adu Kissi that her son had committed suicide.
A team was dispatched to the area to convey the body of Kissi to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, for autopsy.
DSP Agbogah said the police did not suspect foul play since there were no marks of assault on the body during an inspection. Kissi’s mother told the police that on the fateful day, she returned from the market at about 7:30 pm and met his son moody.
She questioned Kissi but he remained dumbfounded only to wake up the following morning to see the lifeless body of her son.
