Aaron Ramsey’s wonder goal ends Arsenal’s nine years of hurt
Aaron Ramsey scored one of the great FA
Cup final goals to crown Arsenal's sensational FA Cup final comeback
against Hull City.
Ramsey lashed home a tremendous first-time
shot with the outside of his foot to put the Gunners 3-2 ahead after
being given an opening by Olivier Giroud's exquisite backheel.
It was the Welshman's 18th goal of the season
even though he missed three months out through injury.
The goal came four minutes into the second half of extra time and was
worthy of a fantastic match in which Steve Bruce's Hull had raced into
a 2-0 lead inside nine minutes.
Ramsey, who was named man of the match,
said: 'We've conceded a few times in the big
games this year but we've shown great
character to come back and to score the
winner like that in extra time is a dream I've
had for many years.
'This one is for the manager and the fans who
have already believed in us, even when things
have not gone well for us. I'm really
emotional.'
Ending Arsenal's nine-year wait for a trophy
since manager Arsene Wenger's men beat
Manchester United in the 2005 cup final was
never destined to come without some heart-
stopping moments.
And, after Ramsey's goal, Lukasz Fabianski
provided an almighty scare by dashing out to
the touchline after Per Mertesacker slipped.
The Gunners keeper was beaten to the ball by
Sone Aluko but his shot flew across the face of
the unguarded net.
Arsenal certainly did it the hard way, having
fallen 2-0 behind inside the first nine minutes.
James Chester and Curtis Davies were on target
for the Tigers who had Arsenal on the ropes
when Alex Bruce's goalbound header was
cleared off the line by Kieran Gibbs.
Given hope by Santi Cazorla's 15th-minute free
kick, Arsenal were then frustrated for long
periods until Laurent Koscielny equalised nine
minutes from time.
