Washington: A new research has found that social media posts helps in
losing weight and especially assists in maintaining it later in life.
The research led by University of Carolina explained that people who
are engaged with social media in the context of their weight loss do
really well, but keeping them actively engaged in this can be a
challenge.
The team of researchers asked people to join weight loss Facebook
groups where counselors posted five different types of posts to each
diet group each weekday for the maintenance period such by asking them
their most challenging meal or sharing some healthy recipes and
observed the response on it.
Sarah B. Hales, lead author said that their research findings showed
that people engage with social media more if the messages, post or
comments encourage them to focus on their weight loss goal.
Hales added that more such research should be conducted to determine
what differences might exist in social media support versus the
traditional methods in clinical settings.
