American actor, Will Smith has been banned for 10 years from Academy Awards after he slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.

Will did not take a joke Chris made about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith lightly.

“Jada, I love ya. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it,” he said.

Will then walked straight to Chris and slapped him.

In the latest development, Will Smith has been banned for a decade from attending any Academy events or programs, either in person or virtually and it includes the Academy Awards.

“For a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events,” part of a letter addressed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences family read.

“Deep gratitude to [Chris Rock] for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances,” the letter concluded.

According to Academy president David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson, the Board of Governors in a Friday meeting took the decision.

Rubin and Hudson added that the action taken after Smith’s behavior “is a step toward a larger goal of protecting the safety of our performers and guests, and restoring trust in the Academy. We also hope this can begin a time of healing and restoration for all involved and impacted.”

Reacting to this in a statement Newshuntermag.com has come across, Will Smith stated: “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.”
