Lionel Messi extended Argentina’s lead to 2-0 after he successfully converted a penalty kick in the 73rd minute.
Wout Weghorst pulled one back for the Netherlands in the 83rd minute.
At the end of 90 minutes of action, an extra 10 minutes was added.
Weghorst found the net again in the 90+11 minutes to cancel Argentina’s lead.
The Argentine side came out victorious after the penalty shootouts. They won 4-2 against their Dutch counterparts.
Damián Emiliano Martínez, Argentina’s goalkeeper made a couple of saves to aid his team’s progress to the next stage of the World Cup 2022.
Argentina will play against Croatia in the semi-finals on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.
