Ms Gifty Nyarko, the Physical Planning Director at the Sunyani West Municipal Assembly of the Bono region and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the G2 Foundation has been nominated to participate in the 2022 Institute of Housing Studies (IHS) Alumni Impact Awards.

Ms Nyarko, a former student of the Institute, was nominated among 22 candidates who have submitted their projects for the awards, through her activities with the G2 Foundation and the impact it is making in the social life of people.

The G2 Foundation is a Ghana-based non-profit charity organization, seeking health care, socio-economic, legal right and the general welfare of vulnerable children, widows, orphans, Persons with Disabilities and the aged.

The foundation’s routine activities include the provision of free health care services delivery to its target people in the Bono region and Kumasi in the Ashanti region and organizes get-togethers for the vulnerable, making donations of clothing, consumables and other items as well as creating a platform for them to socialize, with the overall goal to put smiles on the faces of the needy.

The foundation also gives scholarships to children of these vulnerable people so that financial challenges wouldn’t be the bottleneck to their education journey.

Besides that, some other activities of the G2 Foundation are capacity-building workshops, skill trainings, child welfare services, women empowerment training and others being organized to well equip them and improve their various small and medium scale businesses.

The women are mostly trained in financial literacy, under which proper records keeping, personal savings and forming groups were some of the main topics beneficiaries were sensitized on to help guarantee soft loans to push their trading and businesses.

This is to help improve their livelihoods so that they can take good care of their children and wards and also contribute to the eradication of poverty in all its dimensions which marks the overall aim of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

IHS is an Institute of housing studies at the Erasmus University, Rotterdam, in the Netherlands.

The IHS Alumni Impact Awards is a biennial initiative of the IHS alumni Board and the IHS to showcase and support Worldwide initiatives and projects of IHS alumni, which brings impact to the local community and the 2022 section would take place during the World Urban Forum in Poland, to celebrate change makers and inspire urban initiatives.
