Germany has failed to progress to the next stage of the World Cup 2022 despite defeating Costa Rica 4-2.

The Germans needed to win this final Group E match to secure their chance of qualifying for the round of 16; however, the goals conceded did not help them.

Japan’s 2-1 victory against Spain was also a factor.

Serge Gnabry scored first for the Germans after just 10 minutes of play.

In the second half, Costa Rica’s Yeltsin Tejeda cancelled the lead to make it 1-1.

The Costa Ricans got their second goal of the day in the 70th minute.

Germany drew level via Kai Havertz after 73 minutes of play. He scored again in the 85th minute.

Niclas Füllkrug got the 4th goal for the Germans in the 89th minute.

Despite winning 4-2 against Costa Rica, Germany could not qualify for the round of 16 of the World Cup 2022.

Japan and Spain made it to the next stage of the tournament—with Spain having an advantage over the Germans with a goal difference—as they all had four points in the group.
