Ghanaian Chef, Ebenezer Smith, popularly known as Millennium Chef Smith, has been exposed over a fake Guinness World Records cook-a-thon title and certificate.
On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, Chef Smith held a press conference with a section of the Ghanaian media in Accra.
Smith showed a certificate, claiming that it was given to him by Guinness World Records and he is now the longest-cooking marathon by an individual record holder.
.The press conference took place at the La Palm Beach Hotel.
A few hours after the press conference, people started questioning how authentic his claim was. It was speculated that the certificate was fake.
Others also questioned why Guinness World Records had not updated its website and social media pages if his claim was true.
Following this, some media personalities enquired from Guinness World Records.
Responding to an enquiry made by Justice Agbenorshi, GWR clarified:
“The current and true current record holder is:
The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hr 57 min 16 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023.”
On the supposed certificate from GWR, they said: “No, this is not true. Chef Smith does not hold the GWR title and that is not our certificate.”
Meanwhile, a banner shared online ahead of Chef Smith’s press conference read: “Press Conference. Unveiling the New World Cook-a-thon Record Holder. Millenium Chef Smith from Ghana with an incredible 802 hours, 25 minutes to dethrone Irish King, Alan Fisher.”
Millennium Chef Smith started his acclaimed GWR cook-a-thon attempt on February 1, 2024, and ended on March 6, 2024.
The turnout of events about his record claim has shocked many people online.
Smith was also reported to have been arrested during the press conference over an alleged debt owed Nana Boroo, a Ghanaian artiste.
